About IPv6 proxies

IPv6 proxies live on the newer, enormous address space. Where IPv4 addresses are scarce and traded like real estate, IPv6 addresses exist in such absurd quantity that providers sell them in bundles of hundreds for the price of a coffee. If your target supports IPv6, you can rotate through thousands of addresses for almost nothing.

That last sentence carries the entire catch, and it is worth reading twice: your target has to support IPv6. A meaningful share of the web still does not.

How to check your IPv6 proxy

  1. 01Pick the protocol your provider gave you. IPv6 proxies are usually HTTP or SOCKS5.
  2. 02Paste the proxy address exactly as your provider formatted it, credentials and all.
  3. 03Hit Check proxy. If it passes, the report shows the exit address and country. If it fails, you get the exact error.

The two traps of cheap IPv6

Trap one: target support. If a website only speaks IPv4, your IPv6 proxy cannot reach it natively, and depending on the provider the request either fails or silently falls back. Before buying a batch of IPv6 proxies for a project, confirm the target actually resolves and serves over IPv6.

Trap two: subnet bans. IPv6 addresses are handed out in giant blocks, and site operators know it. When they see abuse from one address, they often ban the whole /64 block it came from, which can wipe out your entire batch in one stroke since bundled IPv6 proxies usually share a block. A thousand addresses from one subnet is more like one address wearing a thousand hats.

None of this makes IPv6 proxies a bad deal. For targets that support IPv6 and do not aggressively range-ban (plenty of big platforms qualify), they are absurdly cheap rotation fuel. The full comparison is in IPv4 vs IPv6 proxies.

Frequently asked questions

Why are IPv6 proxies so cheap?

Because the addresses cost providers almost nothing. The IPv6 space is so large that a single allocation contains more addresses than the entire IPv4 internet. You are paying for the server and bandwidth, not the address.

Will an IPv6 proxy work on every website?

No, and this is the main thing to check before buying. The site you want to reach must support IPv6. Most large platforms do, but plenty of smaller sites still run IPv4 only.

How do I format an IPv6 proxy address?

Use whatever format your provider gave you. In URL form, raw IPv6 addresses go in square brackets, like http://user:pass@[2001:db8::1]:8080. Many providers give you an IPv4 or hostname gateway that exits over IPv6, which needs no brackets at all.

What is a /64 ban and why should I care?

A /64 is the standard IPv6 block assigned to one network. When sites detect abuse from one IPv6 address, they commonly ban its entire /64, killing every address in that block at once. Buying addresses spread across multiple subnets protects you from losing everything in one ban.

Are IPv6 proxies good for scraping?

For IPv6-enabled targets that do not range-ban aggressively, yes, the price per address is unbeatable. For strict targets or IPv4-only sites, spend the extra money on IPv4 or residential proxies instead.
