About IPv4 proxies

An IPv4 proxy is simply a proxy that lives on a classic dotted-quad address like 203.0.113.5. It is the default flavor of almost every proxy on the market, and for a practical reason: every website on earth accepts IPv4 traffic, so an IPv4 proxy works everywhere without a second thought.

The catch is scarcity. The world ran out of fresh IPv4 addresses years ago, so the existing pool gets traded, rented, and reused. That is why IPv4 proxies cost more than their IPv6 cousins, and why the address you rent this month may have a colorful history you know nothing about.

How to check your IPv4 proxy

  1. 01Pick the protocol your proxy speaks: HTTP for most scraping proxies, SOCKS5 if your provider said so.
  2. 02Paste the address, for example user:[email protected]:8080.
  3. 03Hit Check proxy. The country in the report is worth a look: it confirms the region you paid for.

Shared, dedicated, and why history matters

Because IPv4 addresses are scarce, providers stretch them. A shared proxy puts several customers on one address, which keeps it cheap but means someone else's abuse can get your address banned from a site you have never visited. A dedicated (private) proxy costs more and gives the address to you alone.

Either way, the address existed long before you rented it. If a target site blocks your brand new proxy on the first request, the previous tenant probably burned it. Checking the proxy here tells you it works and where it exits. Whether the address has a clean reputation on your specific target is a separate question, and one worth testing early. What is an IPv4 proxy exactly?

A proxy server reachable on a traditional 32-bit IP address, the familiar four-number format like 203.0.113.5. Protocol-wise it can be HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4 or SOCKS5. IPv4 describes the address, not the protocol.

Why are IPv4 proxies more expensive than IPv6?

Supply. The IPv4 address space is exhausted, so addresses are bought and rented on a secondary market. IPv6 space is effectively unlimited, which makes those proxies nearly free by comparison. The price difference is real but so is the compatibility difference.

Should I buy shared or dedicated IPv4 proxies?

Shared is fine for casual scraping of tolerant sites. If you are working on strict targets, or your account names are attached to the traffic, dedicated addresses are worth the extra money because nobody else can poison them.

The checker shows a different country than my provider promised. Why?

Geolocation databases lag when address blocks change owners, which happens constantly in the IPv4 market. If multiple lookup services all disagree with your provider, ask them about it. Sometimes they will swap the proxy for one that geolocates correctly.

My IPv4 proxy checks fine but a website still blocks it. What gives?

Working and welcome are different things. The site may have banned the address range, flagged its datacenter origin, or blocked it because of a previous user. The proxy is alive, its reputation is not. A different address or a residential proxy usually gets past it.
